Geosyntec has an exciting opportunity for an Early-Career Geotechnical Professional to join our geostructural and remediation engineering services in our Detroit, MI, or Ann Arbor, MI.

This position offers an exceptional opportunity for a professional just starting their career in industry to join a high-performing, rapidly growing team in Michigan and learn from innovative, technically challenging projects. These projects include field investigations and laboratory testing interpretation to support site characterization; design and construction engineering support for landfills, coal combustion residual units, and dams and appurtenant works; dam and levee safety risk assessment and risk-informed decision-making; geotechnical instrumentation and monitoring; and geotechnical analyses like slope stability and settlement analyses to support these projects. The candidate will receive mentorship and support from Geosyntec’s professionals to be able to take on increasing technical and leadership responsibilities while learning the business skills needed for a successful consulting career.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Site characterization through geotechnical field investigations and laboratory interpretation;
  • Monitoring heavy civil construction projects;
  • Performing and reviewing engineering calculations;
  • Dams and appurtenant structures design and repairs;
  • Dam and levee safety risk assessment and risk-informed decision-making;
  • Landfill design and remediation;
  • Coal combustion residual unit regulatory compliance support;
  • Design and maintenance of geotechnical instrumentation and monitoring systems and interpretation of data;
  • Writing and reviewing engineering reports; and
  • Driving personal, company, and rental vehicles to client or company project or office sites, and other business locations, as needed.

Education and Licensure

  • Bachelor's degree in civil or geotechnical engineering. (required)
  • Advanced degree in the same. (preferred)

Skills, Experience and Qualifications

  • Prior internship or work experience in engineering consulting. (required)
  • Experience with geotechnical and engineering software such as AutoCAD, Slope/W, Slide2, Settle3D, and other industry standard software. (preferred)
  • Regular fieldwork and overnight travel. (required).
  • Written and verbal communication and presentation skills. (required)
  • Health & Safety training, medical monitoring, and client-driven drug and background testing. (required)
  • Valid U.S. driver’s license and a satisfactory driving record for business travel. (required)
