Essential Duties and Responsibilities

If you’re the kind of engineer who gets excited by vibration plots, high-speed machinery, and solving problems most people don’t even know exist, this role was built for you. As a Rotor Dynamics Analyst at Centrus Energy, you’ll work at the cutting edge of gas centrifuge technology—supporting systems that play a critical role in clean energy and national security. From analyzing complex rotating systems to improving real-world manufacturing performance, you’ll combine deep technical expertise with hands-on engineering problem solving in an environment where innovation moves fast and every detail matters.

What You’ll Do

  • You’ll partner closely with engineering, manufacturing, and testing teams to keep high-speed rotating systems operating at peak performance.
  • In this role, you’ll analyze vibration and operational data, perform rotor dynamic modeling and simulations, support rotor balancing activities, and help troubleshoot complex equipment behavior.
  • You’ll also conduct dynamic testing, apply digital signal processing techniques, develop custom diagnostic tools, and contribute to the continuous improvement of test procedures and automation efforts.
  • Along the way, you’ll serve as a technical expert in rotor dynamics and vibration analysis while helping drive innovation across advanced centrifuge technology programs.

Education and Licensure

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related engineering field. (required)

Skills, Experience and Qualifications

Required Skills, Experience, and Qualifications

  • Due to federal contract security requirements, candidates must be able to successfully pass a federal background investigation to secure and maintain DOE Q security clearance. (required)
  • Due to federal contract security requirements, this position requires U.S. Citizenship. (required)
  • Health & Safety training, medical monitoring, and client-driven drug and background testing. (required)
  • 5+ years of experience in rotor dynamics, vibration analysis, or related technical disciplines.
  • Strong knowledge of high-speed rotating machinery dynamics and system behavior.
  • Experience with vibration diagnostics, modal analysis, and rotating equipment troubleshooting.
  • Proficiency in modeling and simulation of rotating systems.
  • Experience applying digital signal processing techniques to engineering data.
  • Familiarity with software development and engineering analysis tools, with Python strongly preferred.
  • Experience using Finite Element Analysis software such as ANSYS or similar platforms.
  • Solid understanding of mechanical vibrations and system dynamics.

Preferred Qualifications and Location Details

  • Active Q clearance is strong preferred.
  • Master’s degree or Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
  • 8+ years working with gas centrifuges or other ultra-high-speed rotating systems.
  • Familiarity with automated testing, instrumentation, and data acquisition systems.
  • Onsite position in Oak Ridge.
  • One-year base assignment with possibility of extension and/or conversion after.
