Geosyntec has an exciting opportunity for a Geotechnical Engineer to join our geoenvironmental and geotechnical practice in our San Diego or Costa Mesa, CA office. The position will apply engineering skills to projects involving landfills, mines, brownfields redevelopment, and other water and waste containment systems while further developing the business skills needed for a successful consulting career.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Civil design and site layout.
  • Geotechnical engineering analyses such as slope stability, settlement, bearing capacity, liquefaction triggering, and seepage.
  • Geotechnical site characterization.
  • Seismic hazard analysis.
  • Small project/task management and proposal preparation support.
  • Preparation of engineering reports, design calculations, drawings, technical specifications, and permit applications.
  • Plan and execute subsurface investigations.
  • Request, review, and interpret lab test results.
  • Classify soils and evaluate engineering properties.
  • Data analysis, organization, and visualization.
  • Fieldwork associated with geotechnical exploration, design, and construction services.
  • Based on your current level of experience, you may be asked to take on task-level or project management responsibilities, along with business development, and staff mentoring tasks.
  • Drive personal, company, and rental vehicles to client or company project or office sites, and other business locations, as needed.

Education and Licensure

  • Bachelor's degree in civil or geotechnical engineering. (required)
  • Advanced degree in the same or geology. (preferred)
  • Professional registration (i.e., P.E. P.G.) (preferred)
  • Engineer in Training registration (EIT) or actively pursuing

Skills, Experience and Qualifications

  • At least 2 years (5 preferred) of related experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience. (required)
  • Experience with modeling/design tools such as Geostudio Slope/W and Seep/W, gINT and/or OpenGround, CPet-IT and Cliq, Lpile and Apile, QuakeManager, Strata, DEEPSOIL, FLAC, PLAXIS, AutoCAD (preferred)
  • Coding experience (i.e., Python, MatLAB, Exce) (preferred)
  • Experience with Microsoft Suite (i.e., Word, PowerPoint, Excel) (required)
  • Occasional fieldwork and overnight travel. (required).
  • Excellent writing and communication skills. (required)
  • Health & Safety training, medical monitoring, and client-driven drug and background testing may be required.
  • Valid U.S. driver’s license and a satisfactory driving record for business travel. (required) 
  • Candidates must currently hold and maintain valid U.S. work authorization. New H-1B visa lottery and employment based green card sponsorship are not available for this position.

This opportunity will be posted for at least five days. Below are the potential compensation ranges that we in good faith believe are applicable for this role at the time of this posting and are only applicable for jobs to be performed in the specified location(s) below. The typical base salary range for this position is just one component of Geosyntec’s total compensation package for employees. Actual compensation will be determined based on education, experience, skill set and location.

 

  • Minimum Salary: $79,760/year / Maximum Salary: $122,040/year (San Diego, Costa Mesa, CA)
