Geosyntec has an exciting opportunity for a Early-Career Geotechnical Engineer in our Houston, TX office. The position will have the opportunity to apply academic knowledge to real-world situations on a variety of marine and onshore projects for clients in the energy and industrial sectors involving site characterization; foundation design; geotechnical instrumentation and monitoring; numerical analysis of stability and deformation; and geohazard characterization / mitigation, while learning the business skills needed for a successful consulting career.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Planning a variety of offshore and onshore geotechnical investigations;
  • Conducting geotechnical investigations for both marine and onshore project sites;
  • Developing and managing geotechnical laboratory testing programs;
  • Presenting and interpreting in-situ and laboratory geotechnical tests;
  • Managing geotechnical data;
  • Performing and reviewing engineering calculations, including slope stability assessments, foundation designs, soil improvement designs, pipe-soil interaction analyses, and seismic evaluations;
  • Preparing maps, tables, and figures;
  • Developing construction documents; and
  • Writing and reviewing engineering reports.
  • Drive personal, company, and rental vehicles to client or company project or office sites, and other business locations, as needed. 

Education and Licensure

  • Bachelor's degree in civil or geotechnical engineering. (required)
  • Advanced degree in geotechnical engineering. (preferred)

Skills, Experience and Qualifications

  • Prior internship or work experience in engineering consulting. (preferred)
  • Strong fundamentals in geotechnical engineering theory and practice. (required)
  • Strong writing and communication skills. (required)
  • Experience with geotechnical and engineering software such as AutoCAD, Slope/W, and PLAXIS. (preferred)
  • Experience with programming language, such as Python, Java, MATLAB, and JavaScript. (preferred)
  • Regular field work and overnight travel. (required)
  • Health & Safety training, medical monitoring, and client-driven drug and background testing. (required)
  • Valid U.S. driver’s license and a satisfactory driving record for business travel. (required)
