Geosyntec has an exciting opportunity for a GIS Specialist in Atlanta, GA you will work with our team of consulting scientists and engineers in addressing our clients’ data management needs. Initially, this professional will be trained in our standard operating protocols of database architecture, GIS work product preparation, and laboratory analytical data management and validation. The candidate will use this initial training to support our ongoing operations through a focus on geospatial and data management toolchains to compile, visualize and analyze data from a variety of streaming and static sources; build interactive dashboards and reports; and assist with the design, development, and implementation of new products and services for our clients.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Interacting with multidisciplinary internal teams and external clients to provide integrated GIS, data management, analysis, and visualization solutions for environmental engineering, and geoscience projects.
  • Using desktop and enterprise GIS software, including ArcMap, ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Server, ArcGIS Online, and open-source alternatives, to collect, store, analyze, and visualize spatial data;
  • Using mobile data collection platforms, such as EQuIS collect, Survey123, Collector for ArcGIS, ArcGIS Field Maps, and GPS equipment for data collection;
  • Designing, developing, and managing project-specific relational database applications using desktop and enterprise database software;
  • Compiling, verifying, analyzing, visualizing, and reporting large and diverse datasets; and
  • Automating processes with Python and other scripting languages and platforms (VBA, Microsoft PowerAutomate, etc.)

Education and Licensure

  • Bachelor's degree in geography, computer science, science, engineering, or related technical discipline. (required)
  • Advanced degree the same. (preferred)

Skills, Experience and Qualifications

  • Proficiency with desktop GIS software (ArcGIS). (required)
  • Programming skills with languages such as Python, R, SQL, .NET, Java/JavaScript, and VBA. (required)
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. (required)
  • Experience with the off-the-shelf environmental data management systems (EQuIS, ESdat). (preferred)
  • Knowledge of laboratory analytical data verification and validation processes. (preferred)
  • Experience with the front-end processes of collecting field data with various GPS units and the process of downloading and compiling the data. (preferred)
  • Academic training in environmentally-related disciplines, such as geology, civil/environmental engineering, water/natural resources, or environmental studies. (preferred)
  • Valid U.S. driver’s license and satisfactory driving record for business travel. (required)
