Overview

Geosyntec has an exciting opportunity for a Director of Communications to lead the development and execution of internal and limited external communication initiatives across our organization. The Director of Communications serves as a strategic partner to leadership teams, consulting on developing communication strategies and driving company-wide communications.

 

This position can be based from any of our U.S. locations such as Boca Raton, FL; Acton or Boston, MA; Atlanta or Kennesaw, GA; or Blue Bell or Pittsburgh, PA. Hybrid and remote work schedules are available for this position.

 

As the Director of Communications you will manage the content and dissemination of messaging across various communication channels to ensure employees are informed and engaged with change initiatives and important company news, oversee crisis communication efforts to mitigate potential reputational and employee engagement risks, and collaborate with senior leadership across multiple functional areas (HR, health and safety, marketing, finance, legal, and IT) to craft messages supporting internal initiative implementations that resonate with diverse global audiences that effectively engage employees. You will also be involved in managing limited external company communications, handling media relations and crafting press releases related to strategic company activities (i.e., acquisitions, succession announcements, and public relations matters). Your goal will be to create a positive and consistent communications voice that resonates with employees, clients, and the media.

 

This position reports to the VP of Enterprise Project Management and Communications and provides daily oversight to the internal communications team.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop, lead, and implement internal communications strategies and plans in support of the firm’s objectives. Identify appropriate delivery resources to facilitate effective employee communication.
  • Direct oversight of internal communications channels, ensuring communications reach relevant internal stakeholders and employees in a timely and effective manner.
  • Develop and implement comprehensive corporate communication strategies that support and reinforce organizational objectives and internal initiatives.
  • Develop metrics to measure the effectiveness of internal communications and provide regular reports to senior leadership. Adjust strategies as appropriate to increase effectiveness.
  • Manage the content and dissemination of internal communications to ensure employees are informed and engaged appropriately.
  • Engage with senior leadership to establish and maintain internal communication voice and tone, ensuring consistency of messaging and engagement with diverse global audiences.
  • Counsel senior leadership teams on strategic communications plans, change management and mergers and acquisition communications, and executive writing support, including handling the internal communications response to issues which affect employee engagement and reputation.
  • Partner with our digital media and marketing teams to align communications strategies that include both internal and external communications components.
  • Create communications for distribution externally related to mergers and acquisitions, succession announcements, and engage, when appropriate, with media on public relations of strategic significance. Partner with digital media and marketing team to utilize external communications platforms (i.e., websites, LinkedIn, social media platforms).
  • Work collaboratively with various departments, including HR, health and safety, marketing, finance, legal, and IT, to support internal communication needs and synthesize and communicate complex information.
  • Plan, edit and write content for a variety of internal communications channels, including leadership presentations, firmwide newsletters and communications, key messages/scripts, among other work products.
  • Lead a team of communications professionals in line with company processes, fostering a culture of creativity and excellence and mentoring for career development.
  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring timely and effective delivery of communication initiatives. 

Skills, Experience and Qualifications

  • A bachelor’s degree with at least 15 years of progressive professional experience in corporate communications or public relations, or any relevant combination of experience and training that provides the knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the responsibilities of the position. (required)
  • At least three years of senior management experience at a company of similar or larger size in which the individual has been responsible for: managing high profile communications initiatives, corporate messaging and internal communications brand management, crisis communications and reputational management, and change management. (required)
  • Ability to travel overnight up to 20%. (required)
