Geosyntec has an exciting opportunity for a Water Resources Engineer to be based in our Blue Bell, PA office. You will be working on complex projects involving hydrologic/hydraulic analyses, including dam and levee studies, floodplain mapping, stream restoration, innovative urban stormwater management and natural surface water systems, including sustainable green infrastructure planning studies, urban stormwater infrastructure design, flood mitigation analyses and practices, and surface water, watershed, and stormwater runoff monitoring/modeling. Projects include hydrologic and hydraulic modeling of various complexities; hydraulic structure evaluation and design (e.g. spillways); supporting probabilistic risk analysis; hydrologic and hydraulic modeling for large riverine systems; flood modeling; and dam breach consequence assessment studies.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Hydrologic and hydraulic (H&H) modeling, analysis, and calculations;
  • Work on rehabilitation and design of existing and new spillways, outlet works, and other appurtenant dam and levee hydraulic structures;
  • Scripting workflows / model outputs;
  • Downstream hazard assessment and dam breach modeling for inundation mapping and support of direct and indirect economic consequence estimation;
  • Inspections of existing hydraulic structures and dam safety review of previous analyses and studies against the current state of the practice and design criteria;
  • Flood hazard studies, reservoir routing and stage-discharge frequency analyses in support of semi-quantitative and fully quantitative risk assessments;
  • Interacting with client representatives;
  • Depending on your level of experience: Task-level responsibility for scoping, performing, managing, and delivering multiple concurrent project assignments; and
  • Preparing technical reports, letters, memoranda, plans, specifications, presentations, and proposals.

Education and Licensure

  • Bachelor's degree in water resources or environmental engineering, or a closely related field with emphasis on water resources. (required)
  • Advanced degree in a similar field of study. (desirable)
  • Professional registration (i.e., E.I.T. or P.E.) (preferred)

Skills, Experience and Qualifications

  • At least 2 years (5+ desirable) of direct engineering consulting experience working on water resource projects, ideally with a focus on hydrologic and hydraulic modeling of rivers, stormwater infrastructure, and/or dams and levees; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. (required)
  • Ability to succeed in a fast-paced consulting environment, handling multiple project assignments, meeting strict deadlines, and traveling to client facilities as needed. (required) 
  • Experience with multi-disciplinary project teams. (required)
  • Experience with modeling tools such as platforms like HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS (1-D and 2-D), PCSWMM (1-D and 2-D), or similar. (required)
  • A detail-oriented team player who enjoys networking, with exceptional oral and written communication skills. (required)
  • Ability and willingness to perform fieldwork and travel for site visits, inspections, and other business-related meetings or conferences. (required)
  • Valid U.S. driver’s license and a satisfactory driving record for business travel. (required)
