Geosyntec has an exciting opportunity for an Early-Career Geotechnical Engineer who may work in our Acton, MA or Kennesaw, GA office.  The position will have the opportunity to apply academic knowledge to real-world situations on projects involving site characterization; landfill design and construction; earth retaining structures; deep and soft/weak foundations; dams and water containment structures; forensic investigations and litigation support; geotechnical instrumentation and monitoring; numerical analysis of stability and deformation; and geohazard / earthquake characterization / mitigation, while learning the business skills needed for a successful consulting career.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Numerical analysis of foundations, support of excavation systems, and other systems involving soil/structure interaction using finite element methods (Plaxis, FLAC, etc.);
  • Conducting geotechnical field investigations;
  • Monitoring heavy civil construction projects;
  • Fieldwork associated with design and construction services;
  • Performing and reviewing engineering calculations, such as slope stability, settlement, capacity of shallow and deep foundations, ground improvement, excavation support and lateral earth pressures, construction dewatering, and seepage;
  • Foundation design including pile caps, mats, footings, and substructures;
  • Liquefaction evaluation;
  • Developing, installing, and managing instrumentation monitoring systems;
  • Data analysis, including preparing maps, tables, and figures;
  • Developing construction documents, including drawings and specifications;
  • Preparation of technical reports, letters, memoranda, and proposals; and
  • Preparing technical documents including reports, calculation packages, CAD drawings, and construction specifications.

Education and Licensure

  • Bachelor's degree in civil and/or environmental engineering, geology or related field. (required)
  • Advanced degree in the same. (preferred)

Skills, Experience and Qualifications

  • Prior internship or related work experience in engineering consulting. (preferred)
  • Experience with geotechnical and engineering software such as AutoCAD, Slope/W, and PLAXIS. (preferred)
  • Regular field work and overnight travel. (required)
  • Health & Safety training, medical monitoring, and client-driven drug and background testing. (required)
  • Valid U.S. driver’s license and a satisfactory driving record for business travel. (required)
