SiREM, an operating division of Geosyntec Consultants, has an exciting opportunity for an Intern / Co-Op – Environmental Science, Biology, or Chemistry in our Knoxville, TN office for the summer of 2025.  The position offers the opportunity to apply your technical (science or engineering) academic knowledge to real-world situations while also learning the business skills needed for a successful consulting career. The position is 32-40 hours/week for approximately 12 to 16 weeks during the summer semester of 2025. Preferred candidates would have the ability to return to the position for up to two additional semester rotations during their undergraduate or graduate studies. Candidates are responsible for coordinating their own transportation to and from the office.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Conducting laboratory tests to document the performance of a novel remediation product;
  • Complying with GLP standards, where necessary;
  • Processing and preparation of reagents used in laboratory tests;
  • Constructing appropriate structures to support treatability projects;
  • Performing stoichiometric, adsorption isotherm, and statistical calculations with laboratory data using Microsoft Excel;
  • Conducting various wet chemistry analyses;
  • Data compilation and analysis of test results;
  • Data input and analysis, including preparing interpretative graphs, calculation, tables, and figures; and
  • Following instructions and interacting with scientists, engineers, and office administrative staff.
  • Local travel or driving as needed.

Education and Licensure

  • Currently registered in an associates, Bachelor’s or Master’s university degree program in an applicable field. (required)
  • Degree focus areas are chemistry, biology, biosystems and environmental science/engineering. (preferred)

Skills, Experience and Qualifications

  • Experience with Microsoft Office. (preferred)
  • Outstanding academic credentials and exceptional interpersonal, technical writing, oral and written communication and problem-solving skills. (required)
  • Valid U.S. driver’s license, reliable transportation, and satisfactory driving record for business travel to project sites. (required)
