Geosyntec has an exciting opportunity for a Water Quality Scientist Intern in our Jefferson City or Saint Louis, Missouri office for the spring/summer of (2025).  The position offers the opportunity to apply aquatic ecological, water quality, and scientific academic knowledge to real-world situations while learning business skills for a successful consulting career. Candidates are responsible for coordinating their own transportation to and from the office. The position is full-time (40 hours/week) for approximately 13 to 15 weeks during the spring/summer of 2025. Candidates may have the ability to return to the position for additional semester rotations during their undergraduate or graduate studies.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Conducting fieldwork (up to 80%) such as stormwater, surface water or aquatic biological sampling and monitoring using scientific sampling equipment and procedures.
  • Assisting with National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System permit reviews and effluent limitation calculations using computer-based technical tools.
  • Technical writing of draft reports and memoranda.
  • Data input and analysis, including preparing maps, tables, and figures; and
  • Following instructions and interacting with engineers, scientists, office administrative staff, and subcontractor personnel.
  • Local travel or driving to project sites as needed.

Education and Licensure

  • Currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s or Master’s university degree program in an applicable field. (required)
  • Degree focus areas in fisheries, wildlife, ecology, limnology, or environmental sciences. (preferred)

Skills, Experience and Qualifications

  • Experience with ArcGIS, and/or Microsoft Office suite. (preferred)
  • Experience with inland lakes, riverine systems, boating. (preferred)
  • Outstanding academic credentials and exceptional interpersonal, technical writing, oral and written communication and problem-solving skills. (required)
  • Valid U.S. driver’s license, reliable transportation, and satisfactory driving record for business travel to project sites. (required)
