Geosyntec has an exciting opportunity for an Early-Career Water Resources Engineer or Scientist in our Costa Mesa or Long Beach, California office. The position offers opportunities to apply your academic knowledge to real-world situations while solving our clients’ water quality challenges related to National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permitting, Total Maximum Daily Loads (TMDLs), and Numeric Effluent Limitations (NELs) as driven by Clean Water Act (CWA) requirements, and develop experience related to water quality sampling, data analysis, and reporting, while also learning the business skills needed for a successful consulting career.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Fieldwork such as dry weather inspections and storm event monitoring and sampling at construction sites and industrial facilities;
  • Preparation, interpretation, and implementation of Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plans (SWPPPs) for construction sites and industrial facilities;
  • Managing, evaluating, and summarizing monitoring data;
  • Reviewing state and federal regulations & permits pertaining to surface water; and
  • Preparing technical reports.

Education and Licensure

  • Bachelor's degree in environmental or civil engineering, natural resources science (e.g., fisheries, biology, ecology, etc.). (required)
  • Advanced degree in the same. (preferred)

Skills, Experience and Qualifications

  • Prior internship experience in environmental consulting. (preferred)
  • At least 2 years of relevant experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience. (preferred)
  • Familiarity with water quality related legislation (i.e., Clean Water Act, Porter-Cologne Act, etc.). (preferred)
  • Strong technical writing skills. (required)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. (required)
  • Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Adobe Acrobat.  (required) 
  • The ability and willingness to perform fieldwork and travel. (required)
  • Valid U.S. driver’s license and a satisfactory driving record for business travel. (required)
  • Health & Safety training, medical monitoring, and client-driven drug and background testing. (required)

This opportunity will be posted for at least five days. Below are the potential compensation ranges that we in good faith believe are applicable for this role at the time of this posting and are only applicable for jobs to be performed in the specified location(s) below. The typical base salary range for this position is just one component of Geosyntec’s total compensation package for employees. Actual compensation will be determined based on education, experience, skill set and location.

  • Minimum: $66,560/year / Maximum: $99,700/year or Minimum: $26.25/hour / Maximum: $32.00/hour (Costa Mesa, CA)
  • Minimum: $66,560/year / Maximum: $104,230/year or Minimum: $27.45/hour / Maximum: $32.00/hour (Long Beach, CA)
