Geosyntec has an exciting opportunity for an experienced Senior Principal Mining Practice Leader to join our mining team in Lakewood, CO, Greenwood Village, CO, Broomfield, CO or Colorado Springs, CO, and lead collaboration and business growth with our broader international mining team.  The ideal candidate will have at least 15 years of related experience and the ability to support, build and lead a practice area of expertise.  In this exciting role you will interact with a multi-disciplinary team of professionals throughout the U.S., Canada, Europe and Australia focused on mining client development. You must have an entrepreneurial attitude and enthusiasm for supporting business development and technical efforts to expand Geosyntec’s market share.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Maintaining high visibility in the marketplace through regular client contact, participation in client-based professional organizations, and attendance and presentations at industry events in alignment with our broader international mining team and the firm’s mining strategy;
  • Supporting market knowledge and business development strategy for the firm’s broader mining team;
  • Identifying and developing successful client relationships and new business development opportunities on a local, regional, national or international basis within the means of the firm and aligned with the firm’s mining strategic plan;
  • Directing projects, including providing technical leadership and oversight, managing risk, coordinating with other practices and/or offices to facilitate project delivery, and mentoring to staff;
  • Supporting project management and providing technical direction and leadership for mining projects/services related to the life cycle of the mine (e.g., mine exploration and planning, mine water management and treatment, tailings and mine waste management, reclamation and closure planning, sustainability, containment technologies, and regulatory permitting/compliance solutions).
  • Assisting in recruiting, mentoring, and training staff to grow the mining practice in Colorado and globally;
  • Serving in a leadership role as an ambassador of company culture and values across the organization.
  • Training: This position requires OSHA/MSHA health and safety, first aid, and CPR training and medical monitoring, paid for by the firm. We also offer professional development opportunities including technical conferences, in-house seminars, webinars, and mentoring, which allow our professionals to build the technical and business skills necessary to become successful consultants.
  • Fieldwork: Typically, approximately 10%
  • Overnight travel: Typically, approximately 20%

Education and Licensure

  • Bachelor of Science degree in engineering (mining, environmental, civil, chemical), geology, geochemistry, water resources, geotechnical or hydrogeology. (required)
  • Advanced degree in same. (preferred)

Skills, Experience and Qualifications

  • At least 15 years of experience within the mining industry or as a consultant supporting the mining industry including experience and networks in the Colorado mining market and with international Tier 1 mining clients or equivalent combination of education and experience. (required)
  • Thorough knowledge and experience with international mining guidance and standards, as well as with local regulations, and good relationships with regulators. (required)
  • Professional Engineer registration or Professional Geologist registration. (preferred)
  • Strong collaborative skillset and ability to develop teams and build business in the mining arena (required)
  • Strong knowledge of the mining market both internationally and locally in Colorado (required)
  • Project management certification, business development training, and leadership training. (preferred)
  • Regional visibility through involvement in professional associations or trade organizations. (preferred)
  • Ability to succeed in a fast-paced consulting environment, handling multiple project assignments, meeting strict deadlines, and traveling to client facilities as needed. (required)
  • Valid U.S. driver’s license and a satisfactory driving record for business travel. (required)
  • Experience in engineering consulting. (preferred)

This opportunity will be posted for at least five days. Below are the potential compensation ranges that we in good faith believe are applicable for this role at the time of this posting and are only applicable for jobs to be performed in the specified location(s) below. The typical base salary range for this position is just one component of Geosyntec’s total compensation package for employees. Actual compensation will be determined based on education, experience, skill set and location.

  • Minimum Salary: $142,130/year / Maximum Salary: $225,880/year (Colorado Springs, CO)
  • Minimum Salary: $149,235/year / Maximum Salary: $237,175/year (Greenwood Village, CO, Lakewood, CO, Broomfield, CO)
