Geosyntec has an exciting opportunity for an Intern / Co-Op – Geologist, Hydrogeologist, or Scientist in our Columbia, Maryland office.  The position offers the opportunity to apply engineering academic knowledge to real-world situations while also learning the business skills needed for a successful consulting career. The position is full-time (40 hours/week) for approximately 13 to 15 weeks during the summer of (2025). Candidates are responsible for coordinating their own transportation to and from the office.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Conducting fieldwork (up to 50%) such as soil and groundwater sampling and drilling and contractor oversight following training;
  • Assisting  with engineering calculations, design, and/or research;
  • Preparing technical reports, letters, memoranda, plans, specifications, and proposals;
  • Data management and analysis, including preparing maps, tables, and figures;
  • Following instructions and interacting with engineers, scientists, office administrative staff, CADD operators, contractors and construction personnel; and
  • Local travel to project sites as needed
  • Obtain a 40-hour OSHA Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response training.

Education and Licensure

  • Currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s degree program in a relevant geological or environmental science, or related engineering discipline. (required)
  • Currently pursuing a Master’s or Ph.D. degree in relevant geological or environmental science, or related engineering or scientific discipline. (preferred)

Skills, Experience and Qualifications

  • A high interest in working on geological, environmental restoration, and cleanup projects (required)
  • Valid U.S. driver’s license, reliable transportation, and satisfactory driving record for business travel to project sites. (required)
  • Experience with ArcView, CADD, and/or Microsoft Office. (preferred)
  • Outstanding academic credentials and exceptional interpersonal, technical writing, oral and written communication and problem-solving skills. (preferred)

This opportunity will be posted for at least five days. Below are the potential compensation ranges that we in good faith believe are applicable for this role at the time of this posting and are only applicable for jobs to be performed in the specified location(s) below. The typical base salary range for this position is just one component of Geosyntec’s total compensation package for employees. Actual compensation will be determined based on education, experience, skill set and location.

  • Minimum: $21.17/hour / Maximum: $29.64/hour (Columbia, MD)
