Overview

We’re seeking a Senior Process Engineer to help grow our water and wastewater engineering practices in the Carolinas, including Charlotte, Raleigh, Greenville, Asheville, Wilmington, or Charleston.  This is a unique opportunity to work with and learn from leading experts with numerous business and professional contacts who are currently developing new process engineering opportunities. The position will also support other civil and environmental projects associated with complex water and industrial wastewater projects across the country. This position is well-suited for a talented, experienced individual who is interested in leading innovative and challenging water/wastewater projects, including the financial and technical evaluation, design, permitting, and construction stages.

 

The position will also provide the opportunity to grow an existing process engineering practice into a sustainable business within Geosyntec, developing new client contacts; collaborating with other senior staff; and developing junior staff to support an increasing workload.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Collaboration and mentoring are cornerstones of Geosyntec’s culture. You should expect to work closely with experienced professionals who will help integrate you into Geosyntec’s culture as you advance to this next stage of your career.

We operate under a sell-manage-do culture, and so we expect that you’d work on challenging technical projects while leveraging your existing knowledge and experience to help Geosyntec expand its current practices and capabilities through business development and client management. You may also be asked to take on project management responsibilities, along with staff management and development, and mentoring tasks. 

Some of the key responsibilities for this client-facing position include:

  • Strategic business planning to segment and target specific industrial, commercial and municipal clients for projects such as water supply, water treatment, and water re-use;
  • Implementation of a personal business development plan to expand services and revenue with new and existing clients, in coordination with companywide business development plans;
  • Project management and oversight of technical issues/work products; budgeting and budget management; adherence to schedule, quality, health, and safety protocols; client satisfaction; and profitability;
  • Recruiting, managing, and mentoring junior staff and mid-career engineers and scientists;
  • Reviewing and leading the preparation of technical documents, drawings, specifications, and proposals;
  • Performing and overseeing detailed water/wastewater process engineering design on a variety of project types and geographies;
  • Applying innovative treatment processes for mitigating polluting contaminants, including emerging contaminants;
  • Developing report plans for sampling, feasibility study, and design basis;
  • Developing technical reports, including feasibility studies and treatment process evaluation;
  • Developing engineer’s cost estimate analysis for treatment systems;
  • Preparing for and participating in meetings with clients, regulatory personnel, and other parties; and
  • At times, the position may also include fieldwork including contractor oversight and process troubleshooting tasks.

Education and Licensure

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering (civil, chemical, or environmental preferred). (required)
  • Advanced degree (same as above). (preferred)
  • Professional registration (i.e., P.Eng.). (required)

Skills, Experience and Qualifications

  • At least 8 years (10+ years preferred) of progressive experience in the consulting industry; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. (required)
  • Demonstrated experience in industrial and municipal clients with water supply, water treatment, and water re-use projects. (required)
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of local regulations. (required)
  • Experience managing multi-disciplinary project teams. (required)
  • Demonstrated success in the development and management of clients and growing a practice that sustains a group of professional junior staff. (preferred)
  • Excellent leadership and detail-orientation skills. (preferred)
  • Ability to succeed in a fast-paced consulting environment, handling multiple project assignments, meeting strict deadlines, and traveling to client facilities as needed. (required)
  • Strong oral and technical writing skills. (preferred)
  • Regular field work and overnight travel. (required)
  • Health & Safety training, medical monitoring, and client-driven drug and background testing. (required)
  • Valid U.S. driver's license and satisfactory driving record for business travel. (required)
