Geosyntec has an exciting opportunity for a full-time Senior Accountant in our Boca Raton, Florida corporate office. A hybrid work schedule is available for this position after initial training. The role performs various accounting functions of moderate to elevated complexity and ensures that procedures and practices are followed in accordance with company policy, accounting principles, and contractual obligations. Responsibilities include review of general accounting and bookkeeping required to compile a complete and accurate trial balance used to prepare internal financial statements; preparation of account analysis and audit schedules; and overseeing property and equipment account maintenance.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Assisting and reporting to the Manager of General Accounting, the position is highly visible and requires a strong accountant with the ability to independently prioritize and manage individual workload. Some of the key responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Review automatic recurring journal entries and rent voucher entries;
  • Maintain lease accounting system and reconcile to the general ledger;
  • Review all appropriate month-end accrual entries at the end of each accounting period and ensure all related reversals have been properly recorded at the beginning of the next accounting period;
  • Maintain account analysis to support the activity in selected general ledger accounts as documented in the Accounting Policies and Procedures Manual; record any related adjusting entries necessary to reconcile such analysis to the general ledger control accounts;
  • Reconcile subsidiary detail to the control account for all general ledger accounts which maintain a subsidiary; and reconcile account balances to the corresponding supporting schedule (e.g., amortization schedule);
  • Review departmentalization of the trial balance to ensure conformance with Company policies;
  • Review all month end related journal entries necessary to properly record month end related transactions;
  • Maintain stock activity ledgers and prepare related documents associated with stock redemption and purchase activity;
  • Review reconciliation of inter-company accounts;
  • Review foreign currency exchange transactions;
  • Coordinate annual personal property tax returns with external accountants to include submission of property listings, review and approve the returns, and facilitate the payments to the taxing authorities;
  • Process monthly and month-end related reports used in the monthly financial reporting packages;
  • Post automatic system generated journal entries as needed such as revenue and revaluation journal entries;
  • Preparation of year end audit schedules as needed;
  • Maintain fixed asset record keeping, including, but not limited to reconciling fixed asset software balances to the applicable general ledger accounts; coordinating physical inventories of the Company’s property and equipment; and
  • Research GAAP when needed to ensure company compliance.

Education and Licensure

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college with a major in accounting or finance. (required)

Skills, Experience and Qualifications

  • Minimum of 4 years of progressively responsible experience in accounting; or equivalent combination of education and experience. (preferred)
  • Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles, project costing, and financial statement analysis. (required)
  • Knowledge of lease standard ASC 842. (preferred)
  • Proficiency with reading financial statements and reviewing the general ledger. (required)
  • Experience with Web-based, and Windows-based software applications and other data entry processes, preferably BST accounting software or related system. (required)
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word. (required)
  • Strong detail orientation, analytical and problem-solving skills. (required)
  • Ability to work independently and prioritize responsibilities. (required) 
  • Excellent communication skills which facilitate effective verbal and written communication with members of the Company's management staff, professional and administrative staff, clients, and vendors.
