Geosyntec has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Consultant Engineer to support our growing vapor intrusion assessment, site investigation, and remediation practice in Southern California.  This role will be responsible for managing people and projects, developing client relationships, ensuring technical excellence, and providing expertise on projects involving site investigation and remediation, environmental due diligence, and Brownfield redevelopment.  This position is well-suited for a talented, highly experienced individual who is interested in being a leader and contributing to innovative and challenging projects.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Collaboration and mentoring are cornerstones of Geosyntec’s culture. We operate under a sell-manage-do culture, and so we expect that you’d work on challenging technical projects while leveraging your existing knowledge and experience to help Geosyntec expand its current practices and capabilities through business development and client management. You may also be asked to take on project management responsibilities, along with staff management and development, and mentoring tasks. Some of the key responsibilities may include:

  • Task and project management, including planning and implementing investigation and remediation projects, vapor intrusion investigation activities, design and operations of vapor mitigation systems, budgeting, and budget management, adherence to schedule, quality, client satisfaction, and profitability.
  • Managing the overall delivery of projects including project planning and controls, financial management, change management, risk management, and contract/subcontract management;
  • Preparing technical reports, letters, memoranda, plans, specifications, and proposals;
  • Effectively stewarding and building client relationships to repeat business;
  • Developing business opportunities with new and existing clients and preparing associated proposals.

Education and Licensure

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil, environmental, or chemical engineering or a related field. (required)
  • Advanced degree in the same. (preferred)
  • Licensure as a Professional Engineer (P.E.), Professional Geologist (P.G.), Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM), or similar. (preferred)

Skills, Experience and Qualifications

  • Minimum 15 years (15+ years preferred) of experience in an environmental consulting environment, or equivalent combination of education and experience.  (required)
  • Knowledge and experience with environmental regulations in the Western U.S., including California. (required)
  • Understanding of California Department of Toxic Substances Control (DTSC) guidance documents and risk evaluation resources related to vapor intrusion assessment and mitigation design. (required)
  • Experience with multi-disciplinary project teams. (required)
  • Demonstrated success in the development and management of clients. (preferred)
  • Proven leadership skills. (required)
  • Ability to succeed in a fast-paced consulting environment, handling multiple project assignments, meeting strict deadlines, and traveling to client facilities as needed. (required)
  • Experience working on demanding, sophisticated, confidential, and legally sensitive projects with the ability to succeed in a fast-paced consulting environment, handle multiple project assignments, and meet strict deadlines. (strongly preferred)
  • Valid U.S. driver’s license and a satisfactory driving record for business travel. [required]
  • Current OSHA 40-hr HAZWOPER training and refreshers. (preferred) 
  • Field work and overnight travel may be required

Below are the potential compensation ranges that we in good faith believe are applicable for this role at the time of this posting and are only applicable for jobs to be performed in the specified California location below. The typical base salary range for this position is just one component of Geosyntec’s total compensation package for employees. Actual compensation will be determined based on education, experience, skill set and location.

  • Minimum Salary: $165,645/year / Maximum Salary: $248,470/year (Costa Mesa)
