Aspect Consulting (A Geosyntec Company), an earth and water resources consulting firm, is seeking an Early-Career Stormwater Scientist or Engineer to join our Stormwater Practice in our Seattle, WA office. This position includes a focus on fieldwork supporting our stormwater and surface water monitoring and site inspection projects. Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Conducting field activities at sites across Washington State, with an emphasis in the Puget Sound region: water quality sampling; flow measurements in a wide variety of water bodies, especially pipes and streams; installing and maintaining monitoring equipment; site inspections; stormwater BMP assessments; sediment and solids sampling; and environmental sampling.
  • Field reporting to project managers including field notes, chain of custody (COC) forms, photographs, video, and collected data.
  • Managing and summarizing data collected using Microsoft Office products, particularly Excel and Word, and sometimes client-specific programs, such as asset management software.
  • Planning, preparing for, and conducting field data collection efforts with appropriate technical guidance resources, especially identifying needed BMPs to improve water quality and reduce runoff volumes.
  • Work will often involve independent effort and self-management of time.
  • Focusing on client goals in completing projects.

Education and Licensure

  • Bachelor's degree in stormwater- or water-quality-related environmental sciences (e.g., hydrology, geology, biology, etc.) or civil or environmental engineering. (required)
  • Advanced degree in the same. (preferred)

Skills, Experience and Qualifications

  • At least 2 years of relevant experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience. (preferred)
  • Experience performing environmental fieldwork, sample collection for water and sediment, data management, and instrumentation calibration and programming. (preferred)
  • Experience deploying environmental monitoring equipment and building monitoring stations. (preferred)
  • Experience performing site assessments and inspections for erosion control, stormwater source control, pollution prevention, and illicit discharges. (preferred)
  • Experience using databases, data visualization and analysis programs (e.g., Tableau, R, ArcGIS, or Python), and/or basic data graphing and summary methods. (preferred)
  • Experience with stormwater models, such as EPA SWMM, InfoWorks ICM, HSPF, and HEC-RAS (preferred).
  • Proficient with hand tools and power tools and small-scale construction. (preferred)
  • Valid U.S. driver’s license and satisfactory driving record for business travel. (required)
  • Must be able to operate cars, vans, and pickup trucks in various weather conditions and after dark. (required)
  • Ability to lift and/or move 30 to 49 pounds unaided. (required)
  • Must be able to work outdoors in all weather conditions in rugged and sometimes remote field locations for extended periods of time. (required)
  • Must be able to travel long distances and accommodate occasional overnight travel. Travel is most often in central Washington, the greater Puget Sound area, and northern Oregon, Idaho, and western Montana.
  • Ability to complete (as a part of your work at Aspect):
    • Confined Space Entry safety training
    • 40-hr Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response (HAZWOPER) training
    • Adult First Aid and CPR training.

Workplace Setting

  • Often on-site performing fieldwork throughout western Washington. As part of fieldwork, will need to be able to access our field Annex building, currently in the Mount Baker neighborhood of Seattle.
  • When not in the field, opportunity to work from where you are most productive—home or Aspect’s Seattle office.

Below are the potential compensation ranges that we in good faith believe are applicable for this role at the time of this posting and are only applicable for jobs to be performed in the specified Washington locations below. The typical base salary range for this position is just one component of Geosyntec’s total compensation package for employees. Actual compensation will be determined based on education, experience, skill set and location.

  • Minimum Salary: $65,995
  • Maximum Salary: $99,700
