Geosyntec has an exciting opportunity for a Water & Wastewater Treatment Engineer in Kennesaw, GA you will work on complex multidisciplinary projects for private and public-sector clients, involving water and wastewater treatment design, technology evaluation and pilot-scale testing, startup and commissioning, as well as permitting and construction support. This position would involve supporting project management activities either through task or project management depending on the candidates experience and project scope.  In addition, the candidate will assist in expanding our water and wastewater treatment practice nationally by assisting in business development efforts including attending conferences, visiting clients, and developing proposals.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Leading and overseeing water/wastewater engineering design on a variety of project ;
  • Applying innovative treatment processes to remove pollutants from water and wastewater, including emerging contaminants;
  • Developing feasibility study, basis of design, and performance monitoring reports;
  • Developing engineer’s construction cost estimates for treatment systems;
  • Supporting permitting efforts with local, regional, and national permitting agencies;
  • Developing construction documents, including design drawings, specifications, bid forms, and startup plans;
  • Conducting or overseeing field investigations and construction support services;
  • Managing multi-disciplinary project teams, including internal and external stakeholders;
  • Interacting with client representatives and regulatory agencies;
  • Consistent with our sell-manage-do business model, play a role supporting lead generation, business development, staff development, and mentoring; and
  • Help broaden our reputation via publishing and presenting at prominent industry conferences.
  • Training: This position requires OSHA health and safety, defensive driving certification, first aid, and CPR training and medical monitoring, paid for by the firm. We also offer professional development opportunities including in-house seminars, webinars, and mentoring, that allow our professionals to build the technical and business skills necessary to become successful consultants.
  • Fieldwork: Up to 30%
  • Overnight travel: Up to 20%

Education and Licensure

  • Bachelor's degree in chemical, environmental, or civil engineering, with emphasis on water or wastewater treatment or closely related discipline. (required)
  • Advanced degree (MS or PhD) in chemical, environmental, or civil engineering, with emphasis on water or wastewater treatment or closely related discipline. (preferred)
  • Professional registration (i.e., P.E.). (preferred)

Skills, Experience and Qualifications

  • At least 5 years (7+ preferred) of direct environmental consulting experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience. (required)
  • Experience leading and/or support water/wastewater treatment design projects (required)
  • Experience with multi-disciplinary project teams. (required)
  • Demonstrated success in the management of clients. (required)
  • Proven leadership skills. (required)
  • Ability to succeed in a fast-paced consulting environment, handling multiple project assignments, meeting strict deadlines, and traveling to client facilities as needed. (required)
  • Experience working with emerging contaminants such as PFAS or 1,4-dioxane (preferred)
  • Experience with modeling and design software tools such as InfoWater, WaterGEMS, , GPS-X, Biowin, and AutoCAD. (preferred)
  • Experience working on a variety project types and in a variety of roles (e.g., project engineer and project manager) within the water/wastewater industry (preferred)
  • Valid U.S. driver’s license and a satisfactory driving record for business travel. (required)
