Geosyntec has an exciting opportunity for a Water and Natural Resources Scientist or Engineer for our Clean Water Act (CWA) Compliance Practice in our Columbus, Ohio or Jefferson City, Missouri office.  The position will support our Clean Water Act practice as we work to solve our client’s water quality challenges related to CWA compliance, such as the application of water quality standards through NPDES permits, Industrial Pretreatment Program development, Total Maximum Daily Loads, and new or changing state and federal regulations.  In this role, you will get to apply your skills related to water quantity/quality monitoring, natural resource permitting, application of environmental regulations, data analysis and reporting.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Supporting and leading projects involving CWA compliance for our legal, municipal, industrial, and agricultural clients.
  • Researching pending CWA related regulatory and legislative changes and evaluating impacts to clients;
  • Reviewing state and federal regulations and permits pertaining to surface water and evaluating implications for municipal, industrial, and agricultural clients;
  • Managing, evaluating, and summarizing monitoring or other water quality data;
  • In-depth data analysis using tools such as Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Power Query, and Microsoft Access;
  • Preparing and/or reviewing technical reports, letters, memoranda, plans, presentations, and proposals;
  • Preparing for and participating in meetings with clients, regulatory personnel, and other parties; and
  • Project management responsibilities, along with business development, and staff mentoring tasks.

Education and Licensure

  • Bachelor's degree in environmental science, water or natural resources science, environmental engineering or other relevant field. (required)
  • Advanced degree in environmental science, water or natural resources science, environmental engineering, or other relevant field. (preferred)
  • Professional registration/certification (e.g., CES, CPSWQ, CPESC, QDC, PE). (preferred)

Skills, Experience and Qualifications

  • At least 5 years of experience in an environmental consulting environment such as surface water, environmental monitoring, and regulatory compliance or equivalent combination of advanced education and experience. (required) 
  • Knowledge of state and federal CWA permitting requirements. (preferred)
  • An outstanding track record for client management and technical leadership. (preferred)
  • Project experience involving environmental regulatory compliance, historical research, and environmental assessment. (preferred)
  • Experience working on demanding, sophisticated, and legally sensitive projects. (preferred)
  • Excellent writing and communication skills. (required)
  • The ability to travel overnight and perform work outside of Ohio/Missouri. (required)
  • Fieldwork and overnight travel (estimated at up to 25% of time). (required)
  • Health & Safety training, medical monitoring, and client-driven drug and background testing may be required.
  • Valid U.S. driver’s license and a satisfactory driving record for business travel (required)
