We are seeking an exceptional Principal or Senior Principal Environmental Geologist to support our San Diego Branch from Long Beach, California or Ann Arbor, Michigan. The option to work from another office location, a hybrid or remote work schedule may be available at the Company's discretion.  Our ideal candidate is interested who is interested in being a leader and contributing to innovative and challenging projects involving subsurface investigation, conceptual site model development, environmental assessment, carbon capture and storage, and groundwater basin planning. The position may be based in one of the Geosyntec offices or have the opportunity to work fully remote from your home office.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Collaboration and mentoring are cornerstones of Geosyntec’s culture. We operate under a sell-manage-do culture, and so we expect that you’d work on challenging technical projects while leveraging your existing knowledge and experience to help Geosyntec expand its current practices and capabilities through business development and client management. You may also be asked to take on project management responsibilities, along with staff management and development, and mentoring tasks. Some of the key responsibilities may include:

 

  • Manage challenging technical projects involving subsurface investigation, conceptual site model development, environmental assessment, carbon capture and storage, and groundwater basin planning;
  • Evaluate contaminated sites and develop remediation approaches, including feasibility studies, removal action work plans, remediation design plans;
  • Lead the development of work plans, data evaluation, and cost-benefit analyses;
  • Write technical reports, letters, memoranda, plans, specifications, and proposals; oversee and review documents prepared by project teams;
  • Collaborate and assist in growing Geosyntec’s Groundwater Management business across Geosyntec;
  • Effectively stewarding and building client relationships to repeat business;
  • Developing business opportunities with new and existing clients and preparing associated proposals;
  • Providing strategic planning and technical direction for multidisciplinary environmental projects; and
  • Maintaining high visibility in the marketplace through regular client contact, publication of peer reviewed studies, participation in client-based professional organizations, and attendance and presentations at industry events.

Education and Licensure

  • Bachelor's degree in geology or related field. (required)
  • Advanced degree the same. (preferred)
  • Professional registration (i.e., P.G.) (preferred)

Skills, Experience and Qualifications

  • At least 10 years of direct environmental consulting experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience. (required) 
  • Ability to succeed in a fast-paced consulting environment, handling multiple project assignments, meeting strict deadlines, and traveling to client facilities as needed. (required)
  • Demonstrated experience with industrial, federal, and municipal clients in groundwater assessment and remediation. (required)
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of Federal regulations. (required)
  • Assessment/remediation experience with emerging contaminants and innovative technologies. (preferred)
  • Experience in effective management of projects, including responsibility for resource allocation, quality, technical oversight, and financial management. (required)
  • Demonstrated success in developing new business and managing clients. (preferred)
  • Experience managing multi-disciplinary project teams. (required)
  • Experience mentoring and managing professional staff. (required)
  • Current OSHA 40-hr HAZWOPER training and refreshers. (preferred)
  • Fieldwork and overnight travel may be required.
  • Health & Safety training, medical monitoring, and client-driven drug and background testing may be required.
  • Valid U.S. driver’s license and a satisfactory driving record for business travel. (required)

 

Below are the potential compensation ranges that we in good faith believe are applicable for this role at the time of this posting and are only applicable for jobs to be performed in the specified California locations below. The typical base salary range for this position is just one component of Geosyntec’s total compensation package for employees. Actual compensation will be determined based on education, experience, skill set and location.

  • Minimum Salary: $173,175
  • Maximum Salary: $259,765
