Geosyntec has an exciting opportunity for an Early-Career Marine Geotechnical Engineer to join the offshore geotechnical engineering team in our Houston, Texas office.  The position will have the opportunity to apply academic knowledge and practical experience to real-world situations on projects involving offshore marine renewable energy projects, offshore oil and gas developments, and onshore and nearshore industrial facilities, while learning the business skills needed for a successful consulting career.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Planning and supporting a variety of offshore and onshore geotechnical investigations, including the selection of sampling and in-situ testing tool types, quantities, and locations;
  • Conducting fieldwork associated with the execution and oversight of offshore and onshore geotechnical investigations;
  • Developing and managing geotechnical laboratory testing programs;
  • Presenting and interpreting in-situ and laboratory geotechnical tests;
  • Performing and reviewing engineering calculations, including slope stability assessments, foundation designs, pipe-soil interaction analyses, and seismic evaluations;
  • Preparing maps, tables, and figures;
  • Developing construction documents, including drawings and technical specifications; and
  • Writing and reviewing technical reports, letters and memoranda.

Education and Licensure

  • Bachelor's degree in civil, geotechnical or ocean engineering. (required)
  • Advanced degree in geotechnical engineering. (preferred)

Skills, Experience and Qualifications

  • Prior internship or work experience in engineering consulting. (preferred)
  • At least 2 years of relevant work experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience. (preferred)
  • Strong fundamentals in geotechnical engineering theory and practice. (required)
  • Excellent writing and communication skills. (required)
  • Experience with geotechnical and engineering software, such as AutoCAD, SLIDE, and PLAXIS. (preferred)
  • Experience with programming language, such as Python, Java, and JavaScript. (preferred)
  • Ability and willingness to perform  fieldwork and overnight travel. (required)
  • Health & Safety training, medical monitoring, and client-driven drug and background testing. (required)
  • Valid U.S. driver’s license and a satisfactory driving record for business travel. (required)
