Geosyntec has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Engineer - Geotechnical and Mining in our Reno, Nevada office. This position is well-suited for a talented, highly experienced individual who is interested in being a leader and contributing to innovative and challenging engineering projects involving dams mine tailings, surface impoundments, heap leach pads, mine closure, and other related mining infrastructure, as well as other geotechnical design and construction works. Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Collaboration and mentoring are cornerstones of Geosyntec’s culture. We operate under a sell-manage-do culture, and so we expect that you’d work on challenging technical projects while leveraging your existing knowledge and experience to help Geosyntec expand its current practices and capabilities through business development and client management. You may also be asked to take on project management responsibilities, along with staff management and development, mentoring tasks, and recruiting.

 

Some of the key responsibilities may include:

  • Managing projects successfully to achieve goals for technical excellence, budget control, schedule compliance, quality, client satisfaction, and profitability;
  • Directing and overseeing mining related civil and/or geotechnical engineering analyses;
  • Designing, managing, and performing geotechnical, geo-environmental, civil,  and/or geological engineering field investigations related to mining facilities and other earthen structures including drilling, instrumentation, and construction quality assurance;
  • Working with numerical modeling software programs for stability, seepage and settlement/deformation analysis;
  • Providing expert services for Independent Technical Review Boards (ITRB);
  • Preparing and coordinating the integration of design calculations, drawings, technical specifications, construction cost estimates, reports, and permit applications;
  • Preparing, reviewing, and/or managing written document production;
  • Staff management, mentoring, and recruiting; and
  • Business development in the mining sector; including supporting/leading/bringing in new clients and obtaining repeat business from existing clients, leading proposal preparation, and developing and implementing a business development plan.

Education and Licensure

  • Bachelor's degree in civil or geotechnical engineering or a related engineering field. (required) 
  • Advanced degree in the same. (preferred)
  • Professional registration (i.e., P.E.). (required)

Skills, Experience and Qualifications

  • At least 8 years of directly relevant experience in a consulting and/or owner environment, or equivalent combination of education and experience. (required) 
  • Demonstrated business development and project management experience. (required)
  • Hands-on experience of mining-related facilities such as tailings storage facilities, heap leach pads, other liquid impoundments, and mine pit slope stability.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and expertise in design, safety review and risk assessments for tailing dams, heap leach pads, and pit slope stability. (preferred)
  • Demonstrated knowledge of standards and guidelines related to dams and tailing facilities including CDA, and GISTM. (required)
  • Knowledge of relevant geotechnical engineering software and numerical modeling tools (e.g., slope stability). (preferred) 
  • Demonstrated experience in construction of mine-related facilities and earthen structures. (preferred)
  • Ability to succeed in a fast-paced consulting environment, handling multiple project assignments, meeting strict deadlines, and traveling to client facilities as needed. (required) 
  • Current OSHA 40-hr HAZWOPER  and MSHA training and refreshers. (required) 
  • Site visits and overnight/overseas travel may be required.
  • Health & Safety training, medical monitoring, and client-driven drug and background testing may be required.
  • Valid U.S. driver’s license and a satisfactory driving record for business travel. (required)
